Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACoA)
CPD Training for Therapists & Supporting Professionals
Growing up around addiction can shape the way people relate to themselves, others, and the world long into adulthood. Yet despite the number of people affected, adult children of alcoholics (ACoA) remain one of the most overlooked client groups in therapeutic practice.
This two-hour CPD training explores the lasting emotional, relational and psychological impact of growing up in an alcoholic home, helping practitioners develop a deeper understanding of the patterns many ACoA clients carry into adulthood.
This is not training about addiction itself. It is training about the lasting impact of growing up around addiction, and the ways those experiences can continue shaping people's lives, relationships and sense of self long after childhood has ended.
Drawing on both professional expertise and lived experience, the training offers thoughtful, practical learning designed to support more informed, compassionate and effective practice.
It is estimated that around one in five children grow up in a household affected by alcohol misuse. Despite this, adult children of alcoholics remain one of the least recognised and understood client groups in adulthood.

About the training
As an accredited therapist and adult child of an alcoholic, I developed this training to bridge the gap between professional knowledge and lived experience.
My aim was to create learning that goes beyond theory, helping practitioners recognise and understand a client group that is too often overlooked.
Rather than focusing solely on information, this training offers greater context, understanding and practical insight to support meaningful, compassionate work with ACoA clients.
